My Story

I’m one of five children that grew up on a farm in Upstate New York.  My first lessons in the value of hard work and responsibility came from haying in the summer, stacking wood in the winter and caring for our myriad of animals year-round.

My father was a local doctor and a powerhouse of a man that immigrated to the US from Latvia as a refugee during WWII.  His tales and life journey taught me that the American Dream is a reality for those put in the effort and have a bit of luck.  My mother is a dynamo that raised all of us with a deep sense of pride and the importance of civic duty and community.

My first money memory came at 11 years old when my father suffered an injury that rendered him incapable of working for two years.  As a family, we quickly went from “living comfortably” to “barely getting by.”  The experience instilled a strong desire for financial stability in my life, and the generosity of neighbors and friends when you need them.

In 8th grade, my best friend and I won the “USA Today Stock Picking Challenge” for Upstate New York students.  It solidified my love for investing and markets – and I still proudly display the trophy.

I received an athletic scholarship to row at Boston University, a competitive Division I program.  I somehow juggled the immense physical and mental demands of the sport while achieving decent grades – and was selected to the First Boat for all four years.

My first post-college “necktie” job was as a personal assistant to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the legendary senior Senator from New York, on Capitol Hill.  Although politics wasn't my calling, the Senator imparted valuable lessons on integrity, intellectual honesty, and finding compromise through mutual respect and kinship.

After getting my Masters from the London School of Economics in 2001, I followed my passion for investing and went on to manage money at three prominent institutional investment firms in Washington, DC and New York.  For almost 20 years, I had the fortune to work alongside and invest with some of the most talented hedge fund and private equity managers of our generation.  Over that time, I lead and oversaw more than $2.5B of investments across a wide range of traditional and alternative strategies.

In 2018, my wife and I decided to pull up our stakes, move out West and raise our three young kids in the beautiful community that is Jackson Hole.

Leading Bootpack has turned a long-held dream into a vibrant reality. It’s incredibly rewarding to weave together my expertise in investing with a deep commitment to helping others, all from the stunning backdrop of Jackson Hole, my chosen home.
